ERC offers condolences to Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto

Dear Mr President,

It is with great sorrow that we hear of the killing and injury of our dear Mexican brothers and sisters visiting Egypt.

The Egyptian Revolutionary Council sends its deep condolences to the families and relatives of those killed and to all the people of Mexico and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded and injured.

We fully support your condemnation of the killing of Mexican tourists by Egyptian security forces that also resulted in the death and injury of Egyptians. We also support your demand for ‘an exhaustive investigation’.

According to the statement by Egypt’s interior ministry, the four vehicles carrying the tourists were, ‘mistakenly dealt with’, during a joint military police and armed forces operation. This reflects the complete lack of respect accorded to life and protection of people by the security forces of the current regime.

Unfortunately, the risk of such tragedies is ever present in Egypt today where security and stability are undermined by the current political regime.

Once again, we offer our sincere condolences to the families and people of Mexico.
