Press statement

The Egyptian Revolutionary Council follows closely, and with great sadness, the tragedies suffered by Syrian refugees as they seek safe havens in European countries, after fleeing Assad’s war in Syria, hoping to return to their home country after the fall of Assad’s rule. The ERC offers it’s heartfelt condolences to the Syrian people on their martyrs who have been killed in Syria, or have died in migration vehicles and boats or as they cross country boarders.

The ERC holds the world’s governments in general, and European and Western governments in particular, responsible for the demise of these victims and prospective victims because of their position in support of Assad’s government, despite announcing otherwise. This support, which includes supply of weaponry to Assad’s army, has prolonged the conflict and has forced the Syrian people to flee their land. After being bombarded by Assad’s army with bombs and weapons, some of which are internationally banned, the unarmed Syrian people were left with no other option but to flee to European countries.

The ERC affirms that the West’s policies in supporting military dictatorship in the Arab world are the main reason behind the unprecedented migration fluxes towards Europe. By sustaining these policies, the magnitude of the migration fluxes will multiply in the near future. Furthermore, the support of Egypt’s dictator and Assad’s ally, Abdul-Fattah El-Sisi, will add to the migration waves as Egyptian convoys seek safe environments, and with European shores not far away from Egyptian shores, they will be a first option for refuge.

Fascist regimes controlling Arab countries are a main reason for the emergence of terrorism in the region and for the migration of refugees on ‘death boats’ to the West. Terrorism and migration will continue until the people gain their freedom and the right to an honourable life.
