The Egyptian Revolutionary Council expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family Giulio Regeni, the Italian Government and Italian people on the tragic death of Regeni.
Regeni, 28, was an Italian student pursuing doctral studies at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, and as part of his research, his presence in Egypt was required.
The young researcher disappeared on the 25th of Januray, 2016, after leaving his residence in Dokki. His body was later found on the 3rd of February, disposed of with apparent torture marks.
Investigations into the incident are currently taking place in coordination with the Italian authorities.
On this appalling incident, Dr Maha Azzam, head of the Egyptian Revolutionary Council says, “The tragic killing and torture of Giulio Regeni is testimony to the brutalilty and systematic violations of human rights by Sisi’s military regime. The military regime must be held accountable by the international community and international legal and human rights organisations for the unprecedented human rights abuse against thousands of innocent people since the coup of 2013”.
