Letter to British PM highlighting appauling human rights situation in Egypt

David Cameron

Today, representatives from the Egyptian Revolutionary Council (ERC) and Egyptians for Democracy UK (E4D-UK) will deliver a letter to the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, at 10 Downing Street, London.

In light of General Sisi’s recent visit to the UK, the letter highlights the rapidly deteriorating human rights situation in Egypt. Latest tolls of extrajudicial killing, group torture, deaths in prisons, medical negligence of detained dissent and consequent deaths, police violence (both inside and outside detention facilities), forced dissappearance, kidnap, among others, are highlighted.

Furthermore, deprivation of political prisoners from their basic necessities like blankets during winter months, medicine, food and more are highlighted.

Finally, the ERC and E4D-UK urged David Cameron to personally intervene to save political prisoners from torture, starvation and inhumane treatment in Egypt’s detention centres.
