نتواصل معكم لنطالبكم باتخاذ إجراء عاجل لوقف خطأ جسيم في تطبيق العدالة في مصر على وشك أن يحدث.

لقد أصبحت وحشية وقمع النظام الديكتاتوري في مصر واستخدامه المنهجي للتعذيب والقتل ضد المعارضين السياسيين مهما كانت أيديولوجيتهم؛ وانتهاكه لأي قدر من حقوق وحريات الشعب أمراً معترفاً به وليس محل جدال بعد أن تم توثيقه بشكل جيد للغاية من قبل جميع المنظمات الدولية لحقوق الإنسان وكذلك الأمم المتحدة على مدى أكثر من عقد .

اتبعت المملكة المتحدة حتى الآن سياسة تسعى لتعزيز مصلحتها الذاتية في حين تنصح السيسي بإجراء بعض الإصلاحات فيما يتعلق بانتهاكات حقوق الإنسان كوسيلة لضمان الاستقرار على المدى الطويل في المنطقة. ومع ذلك ، فإذا كان هناك درس واحد يمكن استخلاصه من مأساة الغزو الهمجي لأوكرانيا، فهو أن القبول المخزي بديكتاتوريين يستهزئون بقيم الديمقراطية وحقوق الإنسان من أجل براغماتية قصيرة المدى سياسة خاطئة بشدة. إن قدرة هؤلاء الحكام على إصلاح أنظمتهم أو احترام حقوق مواطنيهم تفوق قدرة النمر على تغيير البقع التي على جلده. علاوة على ذلك، فإن مثل هذه الأنظمة بطبيعتها غير مستقرة وعشوائية بطبيعتها.

مثل بوتين ، أيقن السيسي أن القوى الغربية مستعدة لقبول ديكتاتوريته وازدراءه العلني لكل قيم الدول الديمقراطية ، مقابل بعض المكاسب الاقتصادية. وكذلك تأكد نظامه من قاعدة دعمه في العواصم الغربية، لدرجة أن مسلسل تليفزيوني عالي التكلفة يبث الآن على التلفزيون المصري يمهد الطريق علانية لمزيد من عمليات الإعدام ، من بينها إعدام أربعة من قيادات الإخوان المسلمين محتجزين في المعتقلات لأكثر من عقد في نهاية شهر رمضان. ستضاف هذه الإعدامات إلى سجل مصر المشين كواحدة من أكثر دول العالم استخدامًا لعقوبة الإعدام، بعد الصين وإيران. ومن المعروف على نطاق واسع أن هذا الإعدام لا يتبع محاكمات عادلة أو الإجراءات القانونية الواجبة.

لا يمكن لحكومة بريطانيا أن تغير النظام في مصر، من يمكنه أن يفعل ذلك هو فقط الشعب المصري، بالرغم من ذلك ، فإننا الموقعون أدناه نحث بشدة على أن حكومة بريطانيا يمكنها وينبغي لها أن تأخذ زمام المبادرة الأخلاقية، وأن نوضح للسيسي أن مثل هذا الاستهزاء الوقح بالعدالة أمر غير مقبول للمملكة المتحدة ، خاصة عندما يتعلق الأمر بقيمها أمام قدسية الحياة مهما كانت مكاسبها الاقتصادية. إن حكومتكم لديها الواجب الأخلاقي والقدرة على التدخل والمطالبة بوقف جميع عمليات الإعدام

Dear Prime Minister,

We are writing to you to ask you to take urgent action to stop yet another massive miscarriage of justice that is about to be committed in Egypt.

The brutality and the oppression of the dictatorial regime in Egypt; its systemic use of torture and murder against political dissidents; its suppression of all dissent whatever the underlying ideology; and its trampling on any measure of rights and liberties for the citizens of that country has been so well documented by all the major International human rights organisations, as well as the United Nations over more than a decade, for it to be safe to assume that it is common knowledge.

The United Kingdom has hitherto followed a policy that seeks, understandably, to advance its own self interest while advising Sisi to  make some reforms regarding human rights violations as a means of ensuring long term stability in the region. However, if there is one clear lesson that can be gleaned from the unspeakable tragedy infolding in the barbaric invasion of the Ukraine, it is this: the shameful accommodation of dictators who flout the values of democracy and human rights for the sake of short term pragmatism is deeply flawed. That these rulers are no more capable of reforming their systems or respecting the rights of their citizens than a leopard is capable of changing its spots is now clear to all. Furthermore, such regimes are inherently unstable and inherently erratic.

Like Putin, Sisi has formed the view that western powers are willing to accept his dictatorship, and his open contempt of every value held dear by them, in return for some economic gain. His regime is so sure of its support base in western capitals, that a high value TV production by its propaganda services currently airing on Egyptian TV is openly paving the way for further executions, among them the execution of four of the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood held in prison for more than a decade, at the end of Ramadan. These executions will add to Egypt’s disgraceful record as one of the worlds highest users of the death penalty, just behind China and Iran. That these execution do not follow fair trials or due process is equally widely known.

HM government cannot change the regime in Egypt, only the Egyptian people can do that. However, we the undersigned would strongly urge that HM government can and should take a strong moral  lead in standing up for its values, and make clear to Sisi that such brazen flouting of natural justice is unacceptable to the UK, especially when it comes to the sanctity of life, no matter the economic gain. Your government has the moral duty, and the ability, to intervene and ask for a moratorium on all political executions in Egypt- that is the least we can do.
